Global Mental Health

Mental disorders are common in low- and middle-income countries, yet access to treatment is limited. Adapting and implementing evidence-based treatments for people in low-and middle-income countries represents one important way to reduce the burden of mental disorders around the world.

With this in mind, here are some questions that motivate my global mental health work:

  • What are the most effective and cost-effective delivery formats for mental health treatments?

  • Which intervention components or active ingredients are best suited for individuals in non-western cultures?

  • What are the most effective ways to adapt interventions that have traditionally been tested primarily on western samples?

  • In what ways are mental disorders expressed similarly and differently around the world?

  • Which mental health problems are considered the most important around the world?
